PUNARVIVAAH

Today i have decided to gush about this trending soap as my BBM is no longer enough for me. So kindly forgive me if you are not a fan on Indian movies but i assure you, you wont regret seeing this one.
Punar Vivaah (Married Again) is a story of two heartbroken individuals who decided to re marry just for the sake of their children as both were still in love with their first love. Yash a widower who has  Arpita his late wife's memories with him and Aarti a divorcee still hopeful that one day Prashant would come back for her.

I want to talk about few of my favorite characters for now which are: -

Aarti   a divorcee who had to agree to an arranged marriage just to provide a father to her Ansh. The kind of love this lady had for her Prashant and Yash, i doubt if it can be found in real life. I think its only in movies that such love can be seen even though she had to go through a lot all in the name of love. The character of Aarti depicts that of a caring wife, a loving mother, industrious daughter in law and a trustworthy sister. Truly a woman is strength personified.

Yash a widower with two lovely girls Palak and Payal who decided to remarry not for his personal needs but just to get a mother for his angels. He decided to satisfy his personal needs just by relieving moments he spent with Arpita his late wife. He's so principled that he saw his one night stand with his wife as a sin as he had vowed to his late wife to know no other. Our Yash (in Maya's voice) almost took his own life but the prayers of a loving wife pulled him through that fight.

Shobha honestly i have never seen such love...a mother in law who treats her daughter in law as her only child and wishes her the best in her future thereby giving her out to Yash in marriage. Most mother in laws will keep you to themselves so that you will continue putting sugar in their coffee for them. She was like an anchor to Aarti, her strength in her weakness, her adviser, loving mother and a friend. Personally I love her spirit.

Gayatri  phew the never laughing mother in law when things are bad. Strict and always wants to be in charge. A loving mother who doesn't mind playing the role of a wife to her sons too. Mrs Scindia.

Prashant i really do not want to waste my energy on this character. In summary NO ONE deserves such character as a brother let alone a husband and a father. Selfish, self centered, gold digger and an annoying character.

Pankaj the first son of the Scindia family. A caring brother to Yash and Pratik, a loving husband and a jovial uncle.

Vidhi everybody deserves a daughter in law, sister like this character but unfortunately to me she didn't really play her role as a wife.

Pratik my man of the season, always has something up his sleeves. He puts his family first and other's happiness before his. Fun loving husband.

Maya aka Oh Lord!!! aka Our Yash!!! Honestly this character does not deserve to be seen in any human being. Always envious of Aarti, looking for what to plot and who to use as pawn. I really don't know why Mr Scindia left her under his roof self because left to me she does not deserve to be an aunt to anyone.
Dear Maya Widows have their own right to happiness and please do not kill them if you choose not to find happiness yourself. Plus i am not a fan of having everyone under one roof , the Scindia house could be likened to a dormitory and as usual all their lives revolved around Yash and Aarti and such situation is not healthy as it gives room to jealousy, envy and plotting of evil deeds against one another.

I will stop here for today but i want to ask everyone reading this

Is it true that two individuals cannot live together if they do not love each other?
Is it true that a relationship can only work if there was a physical intimacy between partners?
Is first love truly the deepest and only true love?
Do we only love once?

Please who knows how i can get the subtitled version of this movie pleasessss, or site i can download the subtitled version or better still bring Our Yash to interpret for me.lol. All yea Nigerian girls struggling for Yash please he is married but here are more pictures to console us and i must confess that he is handsome in happy and trying times likewise Amam. Namaste!!!!

Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?

I woke up this morning and wanted to write about something else when my phone beeped and it was a request from a reader who asked me what I thought about breakfast and its effect on our day, she said a friend told her that if she does not eat breakfast she will not be healthy, that people who miss breakfast add weight, so she wanted to know my opinion, after we had a little chat, I went further to ask her if I could share it on my blog she said of course.
Is breakfast really the most important meal in the day?

I know we all hear it everywhere that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Some people say if we don’t eat breakfast we will be slow throughout the day, some day we will add weight, some even go as far as to say we will be unhealthy. We hear it from people who we believe to be more knowledgeable than us so we tend to believe it and soon we are living our lives on a maxim that has no scientific proof. Yes you heard me, based on the available knowledge in papers and research, there is no empirical evidence to prove that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. All the research that suggest that breakfast is the most important meal of the day are all observation based experiment. Observation based experiments are the kind of a experiments that depend more on correlation than causative facts in determining the result of the experiment.
Before I continue I am not a nutritionist neither am I an authority in this, but nowadays every information you need is on the internet, so you can read them up for yourself. On the other hand. you have bloggers like me, who go the extra length to sieve the facts from the myriad of information out there and present you the options so you can choose for yourself.

Why they say breakfast is the most important mean of the day

1.       Breakfast kick starts metabolism - It is a believe that because you have fasted over the night between 8pm and 6am that your metabolism has slowed down, so by eating breakfast you kick start your metabolism. In simple words eating in the morning wakes your digestive system up, and when you don’t eat breakfast your body thinks it needs to conserve energy since it is not getting any nutrition. But do you really need food to wake your digestive system up, there are many other activities that can do that e.g. mild exercise ( as simple as clapping in morning devotion), meditation, drink water, all these rave up your metabolism so it’s not a must to use food to kick start your metabolism. Drinking tea or a quick snack could also kick start your metabolism. Our fathers did not eat breakfast as the first thing in the morning, in fact the sons fetched fire wood, the daughters went to the stream, before they were giving breakfast and that did not make them obese either.

2.       Breakfast is the most satiating meal of the day, thereby preventing you from binging – it is believed that people who eat breakfast tend to control themselves better as regards food intake throughout the day therefore prevent Binging (binge eating is a pattern of disordered eating which consist of episodes of uncontrolled eating.). Although there are multiple research both for and against this theory, it is something I will leave for you to decide on. This act of over eating after missing the breakfast is called binging. I personally agree that sometimes when I miss breakfast I binge but then I realized that this is more of a mind problem than that of blaming your lack of no breakfast. Self-control is therefore needed.

3.       Breakfast helps keep you in a good mood – A hungry man is an angry man we say, eating as soon as you wake up helps your body reverse from fasting mood thereby releasing adrenaline and dopamine the two enzymes that affect mood. But then this is the reason most people over eat, when you always depend on food to help lift your mood you are giving up control of your life. Why will you depend on food or any substance to lift your mood? take control of your mood and in turn take control of your life.

4.       Breakfast must be taken within 2 hours from when you woke up – this particular reason like all the other reasons are based on observational research. The major reason while you feel hungry after you wake up is because of a hormone called ghrelin, this hormone makes you adjust to eating at a particular time every day. Imagine the first 16 years of your life you have been conditioned to eat within the first 2 hours of waking up, your body has adjusted to that routine that’s why you get hungry, so it is not really a body signal, its more of a conditioned signal.

As you can see all the above listed benefits of breakfast are not backed up by hard scientific fact (i.e. it kick starts your metabolism, it prevents you from binging , it helps keep you in a good mood and it should be taken 2 hours from waking up) but my advice is this, experiment with your body find out what works for you. I know a friend who has not taken breakfast in over 3 years and he is in top shape. The issue of nutrition is experiment in KNOWELEDGE not in ignorance and then device what works for you. You don’t shove it down everybody’s throat as the hard and fast rule.  The human body is a mystery that we will never fully understand. It can work for you and not work for me.

Slimming Tea

I saw this post on Facebook and i thought it wise to share as i can totally relate to it.the constant image the media is painting about body weight is absurd and am not in support of thin as healthy but then i am totally against Fat as healthy, you have to try and be moderate.

Although the above case does not relate to me i have my own ordeal which i would share with you, My cousin and I have been trying to lose weight so we decided to try slimming tea. My cousin who believes that the more expensive the tea is, the higher the chances of it been effective( don't look at me like that joor, we all have this believe that the more painful  a drug is the more effective it is), I took the tea that night and the next morning before leaving for work. Usually i leave for work around 7 am and that morning i made proper use of the convenience before i left the house. To cut the long story short, i purged like never before. I recall even losing my sunshades as if fell into the toilet in one of the malls where i deposited my signature for that day (covers face) and that was the day i vowed never to use slimming tea again.

                                               Slimming tea

Well i know a lot of us have decided to use this medium to lose weight because of the benefits but the same benefits are also found in pure teas such as green tea, white tea, black tea and others. It has been scientifically proven that tea contains antioxidants that aid in good health. Both pure teas and slimming teas contain polyphenols that aid in the fat burning process, stimulating weight loss.

Unlike pure tea, slimming tea has risks as it contains less than 25% tea and more of natural herbs which includes laxative and laxatives have been advised not to be used as a diet supplement.

One of the most common laxatives included in slimming tea is senna among others. Senna is considered safe for occasional moderate usage but it can be a very dangerous herbal supplement when taken too often for its laxative or weight loss effects. According to Dr. Bénédicte Vanderperren Senna plants have been known in extreme cases to cause liver failure, also most of the slimming teas contain caffeine the idea that the stimulants in these herbal teas can speed up your metabolism and burn fat faster is what sells them. In reality, no studies have proven any appreciable weight loss through the use of these kinds of stimulants.

Herbal slimming teas only "work" in the short run, they will help you loose what we call water weight and once you stop using the tea you regain them in a couple of months, so i really don't see any benefit in them (except you want to take a sick leave and you need to convince your boss. lol), but then again i have heard people who said they had an amazing results while using them, so i guess the buck stops with you.
you should know that prolonged use can lead to serious health problems such as laxative dependence, dehydration and malnutrition. In extreme cases, overuse of laxatives can cause the colon to shut down completely, which requires it to be removed.

So my take is simple, if you want to lose weight follow this simple phrase EAT LESS AND EXERCISE MORE

Tips On Parenting

In those days parents substituted cursing for correction. I remember hearing my neighbor flog her daughter and calling her all sorts of names in the name of parenting. Today’s parents don’t beat easily but they sure haven’t forgotten how to curse like their parents and tomorrow if your child turns out to be an armed robber you will put the blame on the devil not knowing that it was the curses you rained on the child.
I want to ask, what do they hope to achieve when dishing those word(s) to the kids? Is it to instill fear in them or to help the child develop positively?
This are points I believe will help achieve effectiveness when correcting your child:
•             Be positively involved in your child’s life: - a child’s action reflects the kind of relationship he or she has with the parent. Good parenting promotes intellectual curiosity, honesty, cooperation and self-reliance. Create that bond with your child, be the one to lecture him or her on life issues such as rape, what to do during her monthly cycle, dangers in having premarital sex and so on, and for the boys when they begin to grow into puberty help them understand basic things like erection, wet-dreams, pornography etc.
•             The Rod and the Staff: - nowadays parents give their children things like leniency, material gifts in place of love. Parents are like the rod used to spank a child by giving them time out and also are expected to be the Staff drawing the child closer and correcting the child in love. If you don’t manage your child’s behavior when he is young, you will have a harder time doing that as a grown up.

•             Create time for your child: - House helps nowadays are the new parents while the real parents are too busy for their children in the name of work. After a hard day, the parent gets home knackered and off to bed, only to discover the next morning that your child’s homework is yet to be done and of course you will end up doing it as time is no longer your friend. The truth is, no one will train your child better than you, so create time and build this bond.
•             Don’t cage your child: - over time I have learnt that caging ones child in the house solves nothing instead it brews disobedience, lies as the child will always look for ways to do the opposite. Every child needs his or her independence and this helps the child develop self-control and a sense of direction. You can set limits but don’t cage them, it has never worked in the past and caging them won’t start working today.
•             Be wise: - children nowadays are just too wise therefore a parent’s authority should be based on wisdom not power. If you like scream like African parents you are on your own as you will end up barking like a dog.
•             Respect is reciprocal: - parents are expected to treat their children with respect. Speak to your child politely, respect his opinions and explain your rules and regulations in a subtle way.
•             Relationship: - see your child as your friend and daily work on your friendship as he or she matures. Learn about him or her, temperament, what he or she loves etc
•             Watch your acts: - parents are advised to watch what they do in their child’s presence. Parents must behave and act in a manner congruous with healthy social behavior and ethics. Your dressing, language etc. it is known fact in the world of psychology that modelling works best than words when you are rising your kids, so model the characters you aim to build in them and they will copy.
•             Vacation: - finally don’t be too busy thereby forgetting family vacations. I love my child YES!!! I want to make all the money so that my child will be comfortable YES!!! But feeling of love without action is not love. Quality time helps so please never undermine the power of family vacation even if it’s to your village .lol
Most of  this tiny bits are things we all could start applying today, of course not all of us has grown up kids but we all know in Africa, a child is raised by a community. You have a niece or nephew, a cousin and to them you are also a parent so help where  and when you can. Our society is on a fast track of poor parenting. Help save the future.

POWER OF UNDILUTED WISDOM...

When Gandhi was studying Law at the University College of London, a white professor whose last name was Wilson disliked him intensely and always displayed prejudice and animosity towards him.
Also, because Gandhi never lowered his head when addressing him as he expected, there was always 'arguments' and confrontations.

One day, Professor Wilson was having lunch at the dining room of the University, and Gandhi came along with his tray and sat next to the professor. The professor said, "Mr Gandhi, you do not understand. A pig and a bird do not sit together to eat". Gandhi looked at him as a parent would to a rude child and calmly replied, "Do not worry professor, I'll fly away", and he went and sat at another table.

Professor Wilson reddened with rage, decided to take revenge on the next test paper, but Gandhi responded brilliantly to all questions.  Professor Wilson unhappy and frustrated asked him the following question, 'Mr Gandhi, if you were walking down the street, found a package  and within one was wisdom and another a bag with a lot of money, which would you take?"
Without hesitating, Gandhi responded..."the one with the money of course". Professor Wilson smiling sarcastically said, 'I in your place would have taken wisdom, don't you think?' Gandhi shrugged indifferently  and responded, " Each one takes what he doesn't have".

Professor Wilson, by this time was boiling. So great was his anger that he wrote on Gandhi's exam sheet the word "Idiot" and gave it to Gandhi. Gandhi took the exam sheet and sat down at his desk trying to remain calm while he contemplated his next move.
A few minutes later, Gandhi got up, went to the professor and said to him in a dignified but sarcastically polite tone, "Professor Wilson, you signed the sheet, but you did not give me the marks!!!"

When I read this piece, it actually made me laugh. The last paragraph reminded me of the just concluded 2015 presidential election (JEGAquine) and sadly a lot of us can be likened to Professor Wilson. In fact Hatred destroys the person hating more than the hated. If we learn to understand and accept our neighbors for who they are, the world will be a better place. It takes a lot of energy to hate someone, so lets try and channel that energy into something positive.

CERVICAL CANCER

On Sunday after service, I spent over 30 minutes arguing with a friend who believes that 90% of women suffering from cancer of the cervix is as a result of their infidelity. I hope she visits my blog and gets more enlightened likewise every other person who have that same believe.

The cervix is part of a woman's reproductive system. It's in the pelvis. The cervix is the lower, narrow part of the uterus (womb).
Cervical cancer is a cancer arising from the cervix. It is due to the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Cervical cancer starts in the cells lining the cervix, the lower part of the uterus (womb). This is sometimes called the uterine cervix. The 2 main types of cells covering the cervix are squamous cells (on the exocervix) and glandular cells (on the endocervix). These 2 cell types meet at a place called the transformation zone. The exact location of the transformation zone changes as you age and if you give birth. Most cervical cancers begin in the cells in the transformation zone. These cells do not suddenly change into cancer. Instead, the normal cells of the cervix first gradually develop pre-cancerous changes that turn into cancer.

TYPES: The main types of cervical cancers are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
Adenocarcinomas are cancers that develop from gland cells. Cervical adenocarcinoma develops from the mucus-producing gland cells of the endocervix and it seems to have become more common in the past 20 to 30 years.

Photo of woman smoking.

CAUSES:  Causes and risk factors for cervical cancer have been identified which includes Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, having many sexual partners, smoking, weak immune system, taking birth control pills, and engaging in early sexual contact.

SYMPTOMS: Later symptoms may include abnormal vaginal bleeding, increased vaginal discharge, pelvic pain or pain during sexual intercourse. Bleeding after sex may be not serious; however, may also be due to cervical cancer. Symptoms of advanced cervical cancer may include: loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, pelvic pain, back pain, leg pain, swollen legs, heavy vaginal bleeding, bone fractures, and/or (rarely) leakage of urine or feces from the vagina.

PREVENTION:

  • Screening: Checking the cervix by the Papanicolaou test, or Pap smear, for cervical cancer has been credited with dramatically reducing the number of cases of and mortality from cervical cancer in developed countries. Pap smear screening every 3–5 years with appropriate follow-up can reduce cervical cancer incidence by up to 80%. Liquid-based cytology is another potential screening method. It was probably intended to improve on the accuracy of the Pap test, its main advantage has been to reduce the number of inadequate smears from around 9% to around 1%.. According to the 2010 European guidelines, the age at which to start screening ranges between 20–30 years of age, "but preferentially not before age 25 or 30 years".
  • Vaccination: Two vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix, are available to prevent HPV infection. HPV vaccines are typically given to women age 9 to 26 as the vaccine is only effective if given before infection occurs. However the high cost of this vaccine is a cause for concern. I wish countries will consider various programs to fund HPV vaccination and affordable for those in need.
  • Nutrition: Vitamin A is associated with a lower risk, as is vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene. Lets try and eat healthy. Eating well is important before, during, and after cancer treatment. You need the right amount of calories to maintain a good weight. You also need enough protein to keep up your strength. Eating well may help you feel better and have more energy.
  • Condom: Condoms are thought to offer some protection against cervical cancer. Evidence on whether condoms protect against HPV infection is mixed, but they may protect against genital warts and the precursors to cervical cancer. They also provide protection against other STIs, such as HIV and Chlamydia, which are associated with greater risks of developing cervical cancer.  If you ask me total abstinence is the best. Be faithful to your partner. When we hear that someone has cervical cancer the first thing that comes to our mind is that the woman has been sleeping around. yes but that is one way of seeing it because the woman can equally be infected if the husband sleeps around too. Be faithful to your partner and if you insist on sleeping around kindly put her interest first and use condom when next you want to 'play' with her.
  • Treatment: Treatment options for women with cervical cancer are...Surgery, Radiation therapy, Chemotherapy, A combination of these methods. Please these treatments are not cheap as of today so i will suggest you follow the saying "Prevention is better than Cure'.

Illustration of cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is both the fourth most common cause of cancer and deaths from cancer in women. In 2012, it was estimated that there were 528,000 cases of cervical cancer, and 266,000 deaths. It is the second most common cause of female specific cancer after breast cancer accounting for around 8% of both total cancer cases and total cancer deaths in women. Sadly, approximately 80% of cervical cancers occur in developing countries.
Some of us have lost dear as a result of this and some are still been nursed. Our hearts and prayers are with those passing through this tough time.
